Raccoon Hollow (Hueco de Pisote)
1998
Red Maple on base of Hackberry and terminal moraine stones, on casters
55"H x 38" diameter
Inspired by the old, hollowed trees occupied by raccoon-like tropical animals which I used to come across in the Black Jungle of southern Mexico. It took six months of carving with a chain saw in the back of my pickup truck before this statue was light enough to unload. It is a massive, swirling trunk with multiple hollows set on a base which ripples around small stones, the whole weighing about 400 pounds.
